Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association Scholarship Application
Each year, the SWFJGA grants a limited number of college scholarships to deserving high school seniors who have participated in SWFJGA. In order to qualify, applicants must have been a member of the SWFJGA for at least three (3) years, taken part in SWFJGA events during his or her senior year, and have been accepted to an accredited four-year college or two year community college. The final decision on the eligibility of a candidate is at the complete discretion of the Board of Directors of the SWFJGA.
The Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association awards a very prestigious namesake scholarships in honor of Patty Berg and Nolan Henke; the Patty Berg – most all rounded female and the Nolan Henke – most all rounded male participant in SWFJGA. To qualify for a scholarship, the applicant will be judged on qualifications established in the SWFJGA bylaws and the quality of the overall application package submitted to the committee.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS FUTURE FRESHMAN
A participant in SWFJGA will be considered for nomination and acceptance of a scholarship award based on the following criteria:
- Receipt of scholarship(s) from additional sources shall have no bearing on this Association’s decision.
- A completed application (available via the SWFJGA website) must be received by the Scholarship Director or Board Member of the Association no later than the time sensitive date established on the application.
- Evaluations will be sought from the entire Board of Directors of the Association. Observations pertaining to sportsmanship, attitude, citizenship, and competitive courage will be considered and solicitation of input from Tournament Directors of the Association will be required.
- A candidate must have played in a minimum of three Association events during their senior year of high school and been a member of SWFJGA for a minimum of three years to apply for this award. Extenuating circumstances will always occur. The scholarship director will present these circumstances to the Board of the Association and their decision will be final.
- Final high school transcript demonstrating a grade point average (un-weighted) of a minimum of 3.0 is required.
- Letter of acceptance from a college, university, or community college is required.
- Copy of class enrollment for the first semester of entrance is required.
- Candidate must be enrolled as a full time student with a minimum of 12 credit hours enrolled during a semester.
- Payment of this award will be made directly to the college or university of the scholarship winner. Distribution of scholarship funds normally occurs within the fall semester of their freshman year. Target date – September 1st of each year. Information must be provided by the scholarship winner of student account number to be credited and address of the college or university where the funds are to be sent.
- All scholarship award determinations of the Association are final.
