Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association Scholarship Applications

Each year, the SWFJGA grants a limited number of college scholarships to deserving high school seniors who have participated in SWFJGA. In order to qualify, applicants must have been a member of the SWFJGA for at least three (3) years, taken part in SWFJGA events during his or her senior year, and have been accepted to an accredited four-year college or two year community college. The final decision on the eligibility of a candidate is at the complete discretion of the Board of Directors of the SWFJGA.

The Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association awards two very prestigious namesake scholarships in honor of Patty Berg and Nolan Henke; the Patty Berg – most all rounded female and the Nolan Henke – most all rounded male participant in SWFJGA. To qualify for one of these two specific scholarships, the applicant will be judged on qualifications established in the SWFJGA bylaws and the quality of the overall application package submitted to the committee.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS FUTURE FRESHMAN

A participant in SWFJGA will be considered for nomination and acceptance of a scholarship award based on the following criteria:

  1. Receipt of scholarship(s) from additional sources shall have no bearing on this Association’s decision.
  2. A completed application (available via the SWFJGA website) must be received by the Scholarship Director or Board Member of the Association no later than the time sensitive date established on the application.
  3. Evaluations will be sought from the entire Board of Directors of the Association. Observations pertaining to sportsmanship, attitude, citizenship, and competitive courage will be considered and solicitation of input from Tournament Directors of the Association will be required.
  4. A candidate must have played in a minimum of three Association events during their senior year of high school and been a member of SWFJGA for a minimum of three years to apply for this award. Extenuating circumstances will always occur. The scholarship director will present these circumstances to the Board of the Association and their decision will be final.
  5. Final high school transcript demonstrating a grade point average (un-weighted) of a minimum of 3.0 is required.
  6. Letter of acceptance from a college, university, or community college is required.
  7. Copy of class enrollment for the first semester of entrance is required.
  8. Candidate must be enrolled as a full time student with a minimum of 12 credit hours enrolled during a semester.
  9. Payment of this award will be made directly to the college or university of the scholarship winner. Distribution of scholarship funds normally occurs within the fall semester of their freshman year. Target date – September 1st of each year. Information must be provided by the scholarship winner of student account number to be credited and address of the college or university where the funds are to be sent. 
  10. All scholarship award determinations of the Association are final.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS GRANTED BY SWFJGA ARE OBJECTIVELY JUDGED BASED ON THE COMPREHENSIVENESS, NEATNESS, AND QUALITY OF THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE APPLICATION AND SUPPORTING REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS UNDERGRADUATE

Should funding for the Association reach a point where the Board of Directors determines that scholarships can be offered to college students of former SWFJGA members, the following qualifications shall apply:

  1. Student must be a former recipient of a scholarship award as a high school senior from the Association.
  2. Student must apply on a yearly basis to the Association for the scholarship award. Application is located on the SWFJGA website. Compliance to the time sensitive date for application is mandatory.
  3. Student must provide proof of continued enrollment in an accredited college, university, or community college.
  4. Student must provide document proof of a grade point average of 2.0 or higher with acceptable college transcript.
  5. Copy of current class enrollment is required.
  6. The determination of recipients of college scholarship and the dollar amount of the award is dynamic and the responsibility of the Association. All decisions made by the Board of Directors of the Association are final.
  7. Payment of this award will be made directly to the college or university of the scholarship winner. Distribution of scholarship funds normally occurs within the fall semester of their sophomore, junior, or senior years. Target date – September 1st of each year. Information must be provided by the scholarship winner of student account number to be credited and address of the college or university where the funds are to be sent.

SWFJGA offers a college scholarship program that rewards our graduating members and past players.  You must have been a member for at least 3 years and played in a minimum of 3 events each year in order to be eligible.

Graduating seniors should print the application form, fill it in completely and mail it to:

Because of our continued success and ongoing fundraising, the Board of Directors of the Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association can now award scholarships to former members of the association who received scholarships in previous years and who are currently still enrolled in an accredited college or university program.
